Many people do not know
about the newest horror called Pony Coats. Newborn
foals are sold to slaughterhouses
to be skinned
and their hide used to make coats. Also
I learned that people were purchasing Zebras without researching.
All too late many people realized Zebras could be a bit too aggressive and
did not always make good pets. So I started

WHO
WE ARE:
We
are a private run rescue headed by Dottie Schira of Medina, Ohio. Dottie
Schira has been doing animal rescue since she was a young child. Schira
has continued animal rescue into her adult life and has over 25 years of
experience. Schira also heads other rescues:

WHAT
WE DO:
We take in unwanted Zebras
and also purchase orphan foals that are headed to the slaughterhouse.
We have to pay anywhere from
$300 to $500 per foal.
After the purchase price we have expenses in formula, milk pellets, feed, hay, disinfectants, vet bills… We
also must put a tremendous amount of time into these foals teaching them how to
lead, getting them use to be touched and petted.
Once foals are weaned off of the formula they are put up for adoption.
Zebras are also put up for adoption after being trained.
Homes are carefully screened before approval is given to adopt.
Sadly when our funds are
low foals end up at the slaughterhouse. We can
only do some much. We try to save
as many foals as we can, funds permitting.
Donations are greatly needed. With
the help of generous individuals more foals can be saved from the inhumane and
VERY painful death of the slaughterhouse. I will not go into detail how
Horses and Foals are slaughtered. It is so gruesome that you will forever
have nightmares.
HOW
WE GET OUR FUNDING:
Currently
we do not have any funding or volunteers who are experienced in fund
raising. All funding currently comes from Dottie Schira. We just
finished our 8 stall horse barn and pasture. Unfortunately I could not
find any funding so all the money had to come from my husband and myself.
It will take us a while to financially recover so rescuing the foals will have
to be limited for a while but not halted thank goodness.
